Transferring UK inheritance to US

Postby flaurena » Fri Oct 18, 2013 12:59 am

Hi everyone,

My grandmother died last month and has left me a sum of money that I want to transfer to the US.

I want to find out what the best way of getting it to me is, and how to minimise the transfer fees. (It's more than $10,000 but less than $100,000, so although I will have to report it to the IRS I won't have to pay taxes on it.)

Might be worth mentioning that I am a dual citizen of the UK/US and I need this money for medical bills.

Has anyone inherited a decent sum in the UK that they transferred to the US? What are your suggestions / recommendations?

Thanks!
